The Cold War

Picture
The Cold War was a time of hostility between The United Stated and The USSR. During the 70's the Cold War began to simmer down. President Nixon was a great contributing factor to this. President Nixon had a goal to improve relations between us and the communists. He created the Nixon Doctrine which meant that The United Stated would no longer send military goods to Asia. In 1972, he also went to China to reduce the fear the democratic and communist nations had for each other. President Nixon believed that the more familiar the cultures were with each other, the less tension there would be. Finally, President Nixon initiated a detente. Under his policy of detente, SALT was created. SALT meant the Soviets and The United Stated would limit their missiles. Due to President Nixon's efforts, the Cold War was less of a threat in the 1970's.
